The GutRad StVO Module is intended for selected Bafang BBS drives using UART communication. Whenever the system is switched on, it establishes a defined and documented controller state for the intended Pedelec 25 configuration.
Why a controlled controller state matters
Bafang BBS01, BBS02 and BBSHD are configurable retrofit drives. Depending on the controller, software version and settings, parameters such as assistance cut-off speed, current limits and throttle functions may be changed. A model designation or a 250 W label alone therefore does not prove that the complete bicycle meets the applicable requirements.
The GutRad StVO Module addresses this issue by backing up the original controller data and checking or establishing the approved system profile at start-up. The actual combination of motor, controller, display, module profile and bicycle remains decisive.
Functions of the GutRad StVO Module
- defined and documented profiles for selected Bafang BBS UART systems,
- verification of the intended controller parameters whenever the system starts,
- motor assistance only while the rider is pedalling,
- motor assistance ending no later than 25 km/h,
- the normal throttle function being disabled,
- depending on the compatible system, start or walk assistance up to 6 km/h may remain available,
- backup of the original controller data.
The module is not a vehicle approval
The module is a technical component. It is not an official operating permit or a blanket approval of the complete bicycle. Under section 1(3) of the German Road Traffic Act, classification as a bicycle requires, among other things, a maximum rated continuous motor power of 0.25 kW, assistance that stops when the rider stops pedalling and a cut-off no later than 25 km/h. Start or walk assistance may operate up to 6 km/h.
The construction and technical condition of the complete bicycle must also be suitable. This includes appropriate brakes, lighting and reflectors as well as professional installation. Anyone retrofitting or substantially modifying a bicycle remains responsible for the actual vehicle configuration.

Do not confuse UART and CAN
The GutRad StVO Module described here is intended for approved Bafang BBS systems using UART communication. It is not approved for newer BBS CAN systems. Before ordering and installation, the motor type, voltage, controller, display and communication protocol must be identified correctly.
